Kenneth Behrman
of counsel

A graduate of Emory University School of Law (1983), Kenneth Behrman began his legal training by clerking in the Atlanta City Attorney’s office and in Fulton County Superior Court for Judge Samuel P. McKenzie, where Ken was exposed to a wide array of civil and criminal matters. Ken then obtained a coveted Federal Court clerkship with the Honorable Horace T. Ward, United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, after which Ken joined a plaintiffs’ personal injury law firm, successfully representing hundreds of clients over the next decade.

In 1993, having gained considerable experience in both the public and private sector representing individuals and small businesses, Ken opened his own law firm, where he continued representing injury victims. Over time, utilizing the skills he honed dealing with insurance companies in the context of personal injury claims, Ken developed a long-term disability practice that allowed him to further assist his clients who had suffered disabling injuries.

Since opening his own law firm, Ken has obtained significant results for a number of clients, including a jury verdict in excess of $420,000.00 against a nursing home for an elderly patient’s slip-and-fall; a $650,000.00 class-action settlement against a major automobile insurer; a $575,000.00 settlement for a broken clavicle; a $550,000.00 settlement for a broken leg; a $200,000.00 settlement against an employer/insurer for failing to provide a life insurance conversion form in a timely manner, and a $120,000.00 loan forgiveness plus $100,000.00  additional payment against a lender for predatory practices.

Kenneth Behrman is one of a handful of attorneys in the metropolitan Atlanta area with extensive long-term disability experience, a field that tilts significantly in favor of large corporate employers. Despite the many challenges long-term disability cases pose, Ken has successfully handled cases against many of the largest insurers, including CIGNA, Aetna, Unum/Provident, Hartford, Liberty Life Assurance of Boston, Reliance, and Standard Life Insurance Company.  Ken has recovered millions in disability benefits for his clients who were wrongfully denied and/or terminated.

Ken is also skilled at handling complex contractual issues, both on behalf of individuals and small businesses. In addition to recovering substantial sums of money for his clients in contractual disputes, Ken also has successfully defended individuals and companies that have been sued for matters including construction claims and real-estate ventures.

Throughout his legal career, Ken has accepted challenging, complex cases and has a proven track record of success in ensuring favorable results for his clients. Nearly all of Ken’s casework comes from past clients and attorney referrals, a testament to the good work Ken has done for his clients, and to his reputation within the Atlanta legal community.

In addition to running his own firm, Ken serves as “of counsel” to Kopelman Sitton Law Group, LLC. In this capacity, Ken works closely with Richard Kopelman on cases ranging from catastrophic personal injury or wrongful death to property litigation involving storm water or sewage backups, which are often caused by counties and municipalities failing to properly manage and maintain their storm water and sewage facilities.

Ken and Richard first worked together in the early 1990s at a plaintiffs’ personal injury law firm, where they made a formidable team, obtaining significant jury verdicts for their clients. Despite now running separate law firms, Ken and Richard still enjoy joining forces to jointly represent deserving clients.

A native of New York who has lived in Georgia since beginning his law career, Ken is admitted to practice in the States of Georgia, New York, and Pennsylvania. He also has been admitted to practice in the federal courts of Georgia as well as in the Supreme Court of the United States. Ken is married and the proud father of two daughters. One of his daughters followed Ken’s footsteps and is a practicing attorney in New York after graduating from Harvard Law School. His other daughter is a senior associate brand manager for Hershey’s Chocolate Company. In his spare time, Ken can generally be found on the tennis court, a golf course, or taking long walks with his dog Grover.
